the 12th installment of 13 Q’s with an MMA FAN is with Aaron from Virginia…

Enjoy…

1.) Thanks for your time Aaron, What’s new?

Not a whole lot. Just typing numbers into a computer making money for someone else. Thanks for reminding me.

I became interested probably around the time UFC 4 came on PPV way back when. But I didn’t really get into it until I saw some PRIDE on tv and then TUF debuted.

3.) Do you train MMA now or would you ever like to?

Nah, but Relson Gracie’s got an academy (Fight Works) about 15 minutes from me. I’ve thought about giving it a try but broken bones aren’t my thing, really.

4.) Have you ever had an MMA fight or do you ever want to?

The closest I’ve had to an MMA fight is wrestling with friends trying to make each other submit. See above for the second part.

5.) What are 3 bands/groups that’d be in your iPOD right now?

Fugazi, Bad Religion, and Me Versus the Monster

Forrest Griffin for his ability to take and dish it out but still smile afterward. Rashad Evans for the awesome fight against Brad Imes and every fight after. Sakuraba for obvious reasons.

No, but if anyone has an extra ticket to a Northern, VA or D.C. area show, let me know!

Ireland maybe or New Zealand.

12.) What other sports, if any, do you like? list your favorite teams if any.

Thank You Brad for filling out the 57th edition of 13 Q’s!

Enjoy!

1.) Thanks for your time Brad, what’s new?

Since my fight in April I’ve had surgery on my elbow and two surgeries on my nose to fix my deviated septum and remove a large, benign tumor. I’m also involved promoting fights in KC called Rage in a Cage.

2.) When training for a fight, what is your diet like?

I eat alot of red meat and fish, as well as brocolli, spinach (not now though), blueberries, bananas, yams and oatmeal. I eat about 6 times/day and just eat til I’m full.

3.) Where do you train, with who and how often?

I train at MFS Elite in Bettendorf, IA. I train five days/week twice/day.

4.) What do you feel was your best fight?

My fight against Dan Christison was the best I have fought, even though I lost. I started to run outta gas at the end and got caught in an armbar. Now that I’ve gotten my nose fixed I can breathe and that won’t happen again.

5.) Is there any loss you’d like to one day avenge?

Not really. If someone beats me they beat me. The only person I have to be upset with is myself.

Now fighting is my job, before it was a hobby. It’s allowed me to develop my skills much quicker.

7.) What kind of MUSIC are you into? Name a few…

Texas Music: Robert Earl Keen, Jason Boland, Pat Green, Jerry Jeff Walker

Ireland, Rome, Amsterdamn

9.) As a fighter, what does it take to be at the top and how has your footbal backround helped you, if at all?

10.) What is it that got you into MMA and when?

I got laid off work in 2004 and needed some money. Someone suggested fighting… here I am.

11.) What are your thoughts on the current state of Mixed Martial Arts and how big it’s getting?

I’d like to thank Rebecca Ryan Long for filling out the 56th Edition of 13 Q’s

Enjoy!

1.) Thanks for your time Rebecca, what’s new?

Im good! Just training my ass off.. Pretty much that is all..

2.) Besides Fighting/Training, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to deep sea fish.. anything outdoorsChill with my friends. But really thats all. I dont do much else.

3.) What are your thoughts on more and more MMA events showcasing female fighters?

There are actually a ton of shows looking for female fighters. I get hit up at least once a week to fight. I already am booked for a few fights coming up after my KOTC fight.

4.) What are your thoughts on the current state of MMA in the U.S. and it’s future?

I think it is becoming just as if not more popular then Boxing. The sport is really going mainstream and Im excited for that. It means a great future for me because there is a place for us to fight now and showcase our skills instead of just training year after year and hoping for a fight to open up to women. Now almost all main productions have a female fight.

5.) What are 3 of your favorite music groups/artists?

Six Foot Deathtrap, Hatebreed, Slipknot.. Ya I like the hard stuff lol.

6.) What is it that got you into MMA and when?

I was a competitive kickboxer about 12 years ago but was always interested in MMA but of course way back then there was nothing open to us. I loved the idea of training in an alternative sport. Ive always been interested in extreme things. I have horrible ADD hahhha and this is one thing that has totally kept my attention. I started training in MMA technically just over a year ago.

7.) Where do you train, with who, and how often?

I just left the place where I was training at full time. Contract ended and I didnt wish to renew. I have been circuit training at a few gyms One of my main gyms is Nor Cal Fight Factory up in San Jose. Training with Dave V. and his crew. I also train with the crazy fuckers of Team Pit Fury.. Those are my boys! I have also trained in HB and down in San Diego. I actually love to go to different places. I get different styles and also the opportunity to get the opinion of top coaches. I am going to be finding a new home after KOTC Im looking at City Boxing down in San Diego pretty hard. I train twice a day.. Get up at 8am go running and hit the weights. Then MMA training at night for 2-4 hours depending on where Im training.

8.) Which of your fights, in your opinion, showcased the true ‘Rebecca Ryan Long’?

I had an Amateur fight against a girl who was in the Marine Corps ( Lucy Simoean) and I got to really showcase my GNP skills.. I love a good TKO. Im looking forward to my first KO.

9.) Do you have any Heroes/Idols?

My heros are those who go against the norm. Who dont try to fit into what society deems as normal or acceptable. We as fighters tend to live in that place (not within the norm). I gave up a high paying job to train full time because this is my passion. I idolize anyone else who will live poor to achieve a dream.

10.) Who are some fighters who’s styles you admire?

I love the heavy hitters.. Chuck, Tito etc I love the styles of the guys on Pit Fury. They are all talented and put on a show. Putting on a show is part of the game. I love Riggs crazy as hammer fists.. it creeps me out to watch him GNP.

11.) What has been your biggest accomplishment in life or fighting or both?

Probably surviving cancer It was pretty tough on me. I didnt give up training when I was sick (I just went light) LOL I love the sport enough that I still showed up after I had radiation treatments (if I felt ok). I think learning to live life after some shit that happened to me as a child (My kidnapping and murder of my Brother) and realize that every day I fight for him. Its what keeps me going. Im technically an only child now All I have is me and what I can offer. My new accomplishment is to help bring female MMA to the mainstream. I will do what ever it takes to make that happen. I want to inspire girls/women to start training and fight it helps with self confidence and it really is a good form of therapy. Works for me lol. Winning my KOTC fight in Oct will be my next accomplishment!

12.) Is there anywhere in the world you’d like to see but haven’t yet?

Ireland or England.. I have some fans in England I hear ?

13.) Are there any short-term or long-term goals you’d like to achieve?

Yes, absolutely. I have no doubt that ill be back in there by the end of the year or the beginning of next. Im taking some time off to do a couple of tune up fights and see what happens. Heart, determination, drive, thick German/Irish skull, huge pain threshold, and I love to win. When I lose, it just ticks me off and makes me train even harder. I feel that’s a strenght also.
