That’s right, this 5th edition of 13 Q’s features Team Quest Fighter and a member of the IFL’s Wolfpack. Chris Wilson

1.) Thanks for your time Chris! So, You’re a member of the International Fight League’s WOLFPACK. What are your thoughts on the IFL so far?

So far the IFL has treated everyone very well. They are very professional and have assembled great athletes to compete in a great show. They have made the pay competitive and given some stability to fighters, something other orgs don’t do.

2.) Where do you train, with who and how often?

I train at Team Quest Martial Arts and Fitness. 18206 SE Stark St. in Portland/Gresham area. I train twice a day 4 days a week then once a day for 2 days a week then take 1 day completely off.

3.) You have a pretty impressive 9-2 MMA record. What are some things that attribute to your success?

That’s not my complete record, but I attribute lots of my success to my coaches (Matt Lindland and Robert Follis) as well as to my training partners (Ryan Schultz, Ed Herman, Nate Quarry, Ian Loveland, Chael Sonnen and the rest of the guys).

4.) What are some of your goals?

I want to win… EVERYTHING. I want to win the IFL championships, I want to win the Pride Bushido belt… etc. I also would like to own my own fight gym someday.

5.) If you weren’t fighting for a living, what career would you like to have?

If I weren’t fighting for a living I could easily see myself commentating at shows or even working in movies (after having fought). If I had never fought, I might have continued teaching.

6.) What is it that got you into MMA and when?

I got into MMA because everytime I did a martial art is was only so realistic before some part of it made me realize I was incomplete in some aspect of fighting. I transitioned into MMA roughly 4 years ago.

7.) Who are some fighters you look up to. Or list a few of your favorite fighters.

Look up to:
Matt Lindland is near the top for sure. He has a strong work ethic and constantly improves his game.

A couple favorites to watch besides Matt:
Wanderlei Silva for his style. Shogun for his youthful exuberance. Nogueira for his sick ground skills. Fedor for being a cameleon cyborg. Yves cause I’m a striker at heart and he does a ton of cool combos and setups.

Truth is, it’s hard to pick favorites. I’m as much a fan of the sport as I am a participant.

8.) Do you watch other sports besides MMA?

I enjoy watching and playing soccer, tennis and beach volleyball. I also love ping-pong… no joke.

9.) What are your thoughts on current state and future of MMA in the U.S.?

The current state is great because more options are available to the fighters and after all, without fighters there is no MMA. It’s nice to see the guys getting treated to better contracts. The future of MMA is extremely bright because people are starting to realize that this is a true sport with true dedicated athletes. I believe MMA will be respected in the near future as it was in ancient times. Funny how things are cyclical…

10.) What are 3 bands/groups that are in your iPOD or cd player, right now? or name 3 or your favorites.

I was raised in Brazil for a long time so I listen to lots of Brazilian music. Some stuff on my iPod:
O Rappa
Chico Science e a Nacao Zumbi
Jota Quest
Beth Carvalho
Ze Ramalho
White Zombie
and lots of electronic music

11.) Do you know who your next opponent is? If so, what are your thoughts on him?

I will be fighting Brad Blackburn in the IFL on September 9 here in Portland. I know he’s got hard punches and bad intentions. That’s not gonna be enough though… not even close.

12.) Do you have any heroes?

My dad.

13.) Do you have any advice for people who want to get into MMA?

a) Train consistently.
b) Drill more than you spar.
c) Learn from everyone.

Thanks again for your time Chris! Feel free to use this extra space to say anything else you’d like. Feel free to plug any sponsors you may have…

I hope you guys can make it to the IFL shows. I plan to win the Finals so check if there is a show near you. Also, stay tuned for cool stuff on the website www.IFL.tv I’d like to thank StrengthCoachOnline.com and LA Fitness for all the continued support.
