Hell Yeah! I love doing 13 Q’s with different MMA Clothing Companies.
This Edition is with 62 Gear aka Six Deuce Gear…
1.) When did Six Deuce begin?
Six Deuce started in February of 2006, when I was able to get a pretty large amount of Genki Sudo shirts from Japan at wholesale pricing. I’ve been a graphic designer for several years now, and had a lot of ideas for t-shirts. The Genki shirts sold well, and from there we made our own.
2.) What fighters are you currently sponsoring? or, who can we see sporting ‘Six Deuce’ clothing?
We’ve got several great up-and-coming fighters…Ultimate Fight Night and D.O.G. vet Luigi Fioravanti (American Top Team), Shooto vet Cole Miller (American Top Team), AFC fighter Ben Stark (American Top Team), Cage Fury fighter Malachy Friedman (Evan Tanner’s camp), Strikeforce alum Jesse Fujarczyk, K-1 vet Jeff “Big Diesel” Ford, Iowa fighters John “Hurricane” Halverson and Thomas Mastin, and former Tampa Combat instructor Ben Glossop. We’ll be adding on a couple more when it is closer to Christmas.
3.) What makes your company different from the other MMA fight gear companies?
I would say, probably our designs. I’ve heard an overwhelming amount of people ask for more “subtle” MMA-themed clothing…that still looks good and represents the sport well. We try to put out gear that you could wear around town that won’t make people try to fight you or run away from you. Unless you’re not wearing pants, in which case you’re a Mayhem Monkey, and it doesn’t matter what they think.
4.) What made you decide that MMA was the way to go in merching clothing?
I’ve been involved in the sport since the very beginning. I remember pestering Art Davies’ secretary on the phone all the time after the first UFC, trying to score some free schwag. So, the passion has never left me. MMA is one of the fastest growing sports in the world…I figured, if not now, then I’ll miss the boat. I had wanted to design MMA shirts for a few years, but I finally decided to just go for it earlier this year.
5.) How would a fighter go about getting sponsored by your company?
Drop me an email at sixdeucegear@gmail.com … I’ll warn you though, I’ve been overwhelmed with requests. I’m dumping all my money back into gear and current sponsorships, so I can’t promise anything. If you fight in the UFC, K1, Pride, or another large show, I need the exposure, so get ahold of me and I’ll make you an official tee shirt or something.
6.) Will you ever be coming out with a ‘Six Deuce’ girl calender?
LOL…if people request it, sure. I’m sure our models would enjoy doing it!
7.) Do you send people out from your company to go to MMA shows?
I wish! We’re still pretty small right now, and I work two jobs besides running Six Deuce, so I never have enough time to accomplish all of my goals. I’ll be in Vegas for Pride FC in October as a spectator, not a merchant, so hope to meet some of you out there!
8.) Besides your website, is there anyway to buy ‘Six Deuce’ gear?
Six Deuce is a web-based business, but if you see my P.O.S. 93 Cadillac cruising down the streets of Ames, Iowa…I’ll sell you a t-shirt out of my trunk. In the future, however, we hope to sell in some retail stores.
9.) Where do you see your company in 3 years? How Big?
Good question! Hopefully it will be lucrative enough so that I can afford to pay my rent every month.
10.) How big is word of mouth for your company?
HUGE. Tell your friends, please? If you liked the shipping times, quality, experience, tell your friends, training partners, and random old people at the mall. If you DIDN’T like something about it, man…just get ahold of me and I’ll take care of ya! And then go tell your friends, training partners, and old people.
11.) With MMA growing like WEEDS in the states, do you see your company growing outside the U.S.?
I certainly hope so. We feel that foreign fight fans are some of the most educated about the sport…and that is why we offer our crazy shipping prices to our overseas customers. $5 per item, with only $1 for each additional item! So yeah…I lose money actually. Maybe I should re-think that…
12.) As a company, what has been your biggest accomplishment?
They’re all about equal. From seeing our company logo on Spike TV, to working with our awesome fighters and models…from hearing from all of our customers to learning the process of business…it’s been great so far!
13.) What are your thoughts on the current state of MMA in the U.S., and how BIG do you see it getting?
Ehhhh…that’s what I’m afraid of…it getting TOO big. Overexposure is never good for ANYTHING…and I hope it develops (in the eyes of the everyday fan) into a SPORT, and stays away from being a spectacle. I think we’ve done a pretty good job so far.
Thanks for giving us this opportunity to tell your blog readers a little bit about our company. Send us a message on myspace if you have any questions, and check out www.62gear.com when you have a chance!
