TUF 3 contestant, Matt ‘The Hammer’ Hamill filled out the 50th edition of 13 Q’s…
Enjoy!
1.) Thanks for your time Matt! What’s new?
Nothing much, just training a lot…
2.) How and when did you get your nickname, The Hammer?
It happened back in 1996 at RIT. That night, there were 300 deaf people watching me wrestle against the top ranked wrestler. I body slammed him then pinned him in less than 30 seconds. They felt the vibration and gave the deaf fans some idea to nickname me “Hammer”…
3.) What was your experience like on TUF 3 overall?
It was a good experience. I learned so many things from the coach and the fighters.
4.) Who are some fighters that you admire or like their style?
There are three fighters that I admire: Randy Courture, Tito Ortiz and Fedar
5.) Where do you currently train, with who, and how often?
I’m currently training in California with Tito at Big Bear camp for a month and half
6.) What has been your biggest accomplishment in life, fighting or at all?
I’ve been training for 11 months, winning the fight is the biggest accomplishment. I’m getting better everyday…
7.) What teams or groups are some of your favorites right now?
As you know I don’t know other teams or groups, I’m new at this. I’m into two group Team Punishment and Streetwise.
8.) What are 3 goals that are on the top of your list right now?
To be in the top ten in 205 division, stay undefeated, always get a better fighter and never get an easy fight
9.) As fighter, what are your strengths?
I’m very strong and determined
10.) What is your diet like when training for a fight?
Eat healthy and maintain my weight low to 205
11.) If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Ireland
12.) What is it that got you into MMA and when?
It happened when I worked at the bar as a bouncer, there were two guys that had bad behavior and the bouncer couldn’t handle them so they called Hammer. I threw them out by using technique moves. Everyone was speechless…then everyone asked me why not join UFC…The ball got rolling from there. That was over five months ago.
Thanks again for your time Matt! Feel free to use the extra space to say anything else you’d like to your fans. And feel free to plug any sponsors.
I’d like to thank my family, friends & fans for supporting me & believing in me. You make me want to work even harder.
*A special note- My goal is to show the people around the world that handicap people can achieve anything they put their minds & hearts into.
-Matt
