1) What got you into MMA?

I started out doing pro wrestling and I loved it. I did it for 8 years and traveled all over the world working for different promotions then I came across a few guys who were getting into it before I was really big it was more underground so I went and watched it with them and was just hooked it looked very exciting and a good chance to show your skills and your heart.

I began my training in So-cal with L.A. Boxing then moved to Nor-cal and started with Carlos Garcia at Sac BJJ. I always heard about Cal Worsham’s Team X… and was able to find out where they train and that was it. I feel I train with the best team around. Everyone works so hard and we have a lot of great fighters and champions. Cal has a big heart and really does a lot for us and really takes care of us he is a true leader.

2) Who are your sponsors?

Well we have team sponsors I wish to thank first they really help the team and it’s greatly appreciated. www.developmentinc.com
and Carter Painting, as well as Cover All Protective Sheds and Frank Fernandez C.P.A. I also have my personal sponsors that really take care of me it’s hard to get sponsored by a lot of people if you don’t have a belt or a really big record so I am really glad they are taking a chance with me. I have Assault Fight Gear they are an MMA clothing company and they rock… I wanna give big thanks to Kelly and Brian they really take care of me and some of my teammates. Also I wish to thank Pimpit they are a clothing company out of So-cal and I always rock their gear big props to Kimberley and Derek form Pimpit for hooking me up and taking care of me. Make sure you visit www.assaultfightgear.com and www.pimpit.com and get some sweet gear. I am in talks with Roni Raye Productions he’s a cool guy and I would be excited to represent him as well we will have a feature on me up in the near future at www.roniraye.com. Thanks to all of my sponsors much Love..

3) Who do you fight for?

I fight for Cal Worsham’s Team X. We train out of Folsom and it is a great place to train with a lot of great champions.

4) What’s your training schedule like?

We train Monday through Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday are team nites. We train everything form submission drilling to striking at any position and conditioning it’s just a great camp and everyone supports each other and we push each other to be the best we can be.

5) What were the results of your last fight?

Unfortunately I lost it’s the way it goes sometimes I wasn’t feeling that great I had a rough cut and my conditioning wasn’t what it should have been but I don’t make excuses I was beat and that’s the way it goes. All I can do is learn form it and train harder and work on my weaknesses and come back strong and win.

6) When is your next fight and where?

My next fight I am hoping will be in February. I have heard the February fights are at Memorial Auditorium here in Sac but I am not sure. I am dropping my weight and will be coming back and debuting at 170… I feel it will be the weight I can perform the best at.

7) Who is the one person you’d like to get into the cage with and spar with?

I really wanna avenge my last loss there has been some negative comments from the guy that beat me and I don’t appreciate it at all some guys have no respect in this business and it’s a shame so I would love to re-match and show him what I am like at 100%.
8) How did you get your nickname?

I was just kinda brainstorming since I came form pro wrestling I am very good at promoting myself and kinda bringing an entertainment side to MMA. I was dabbling with a few different ones but The Outlaw just stuck out and fits who I am and the way I have always lived so it just works.

9) Where is the one place you’d rather be right now?

Around my close friends and family… I am kinda a homebody but I love being with my family and friends they really make me happy and feel loved they are the best

10) Where is the one place you’d like to train and haven’t yet?

Man there are a lot of places and people I would love to train with. I am sure I will have the opportunity in the future to do so.

11) What type of music do you listen to, to get pumped up?

I don’t listen to music in the back before a fight or anything I don’t like to seclude myself I like being around all the guys and my teammates it’s what pumps me up I like to just joke around and keep my head from thinking too much lol…

12) Chuck or Tito who you think has this next fight?

I am all for Chuck. Don’t get me wrong I truly feel Tito has come a long way and has evolved as a fighter and person he has really gotten better but Chuck brings so much more to the table, I mean he has one punch knock out power in both hands and his feet and he is a great wrestler and has the best takedown defense in MMA. Me and teammate were talking and we feel that Tito is one of last dying breeds of more wrestler than fighter Matt Hughes was a strong representative of that and he fell to the evolution of fighters these days.

13) What is your pick for fight of the year?

I really liked the last Matt Hughes GSP fight it was great. So was the Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin. It’s difficult to pick one but there has been a lot of great ones this year and many more to come I am sure.

Thanks a bunch for takin the time to fill this out! If there is anything else youd like to say have at it….

I would also like to thank all the guys that have made me the fighter that I am… Jaime Jara he is one of the best fighters I have ever seen and had the privilege to train with. James Fanshier, Allen Scoville, Gigo Jara, Randy Hickman, Jason Gerris, Mike Rumsey and the rest of the boys we are like a family as well as a team, they are my brothers in battle and my brothers form different mothers lol… I love them all. And I wanna thank Cal Worsham for giving me the opportunity to train with them and share his knowledge and advice he really takes you under his wing and cares I mean he was one of the original guys who cut their teeth and made MMA what it is today so we should all be thankful for legends such as Cal Worsham. Also I wish to thank Ted Williams and Terry Trebilkock for giving me the chance to show my skills and bringing me back show after show win or lose they are an awesome promotion and I am very proud to be a part of both Gladiator Challenge and The King of The Cage. Last but not least is my family they give me the strength and really support me in any way they are the best Amber and Sis and Emiko and Tamara, Asa, Kynan and Laura, they are all awesome and they always come and show support and I am lucky to have them in my life.

Also I wish to thank Michelle for doin this interview and the MMA Discussion board it is a great way for the fans to discuss our sport and be a part of it it’s the fans that make this sport what it is just as much as the fighters. I love MMA fans they are the best and I do what I can to put on a great fight every time I go out. Our next venue is Dec 16th at the Memorial Auditorium it’s a Gladiator Challenge event and it’s gonna be awesome. We have many fighters from Team X fighting including Cal Worsham, Allen Scoville and our welterweight champ James Fanshier so come out to Sac and show support for MMA. For any info go to www.gladiatorchallenge.com or you can contact me at www.myspace.com/outlawmma and be sure and get your new outlaw T-shirts and for the ladies get you outlaw girl shirts contact me thanks again for this interview it was great and hope to see you all at the fights!

1) What got you into MMA?

Probably the fact that i love Martial arts but hated the rules in the regular Karate tournies, i wanted more contact so i turned to MMA!

2) Who are your sponsors?

Nrage and Thick Skin Ind are my two main sponsors at the moment, i have been pretty much doin it on my own untill now, but things are gettin a little crazy so i’m looking around for sponsors finally!

3) Who do you fight for?

I fight for myself and my kids :) i’m not part of a fight team or school anymore, i have been asked to join a few and i have thought about it and i am leaning toward joining with WNYMMA but again, nothing is set in stone yet, i am really picky about who i associate myself with.

4) Whats your training schedual like?

Omg it’s crazy, i am in the gym by 5 am everyday, i weight train for 2 hours then move to the mats with a few training partners that i have here, we drill and roll for about 2 hours, then it’s off to work, after work 3 days a week i head back to the gym and work on my stand up for a few hours before heading home, i have a feeling that it is going to be picking up now though, with Feb. looking the way it does.

5) Have you had MMA fights?

I have had local amature fights but nothing like what i am looking at now, my amature record is 18-3-1 but i don’t really think that you can compair what i have done and the competition i have faced thus far with what i am looking at now.

6) When is your next fight and where?

I am looking at being on a few cards for BFA and Paul, one of my sponsors is talking with Pete Clemete to get me on a few NHB cards. At this point i am looking at 2 fights upcomming, the first will be here in NYC on Feb. 2nd and the 2nd will be in Ventura Cali. on Feb 24th.

7) What would you say is your signature move?

Wow, thats tough…..i have a mean right hook but i can get ya in an arm bar from anywhere so it would have to be one of those lol!!

My last fight was against Dave Menkee and i caught him in an arm bar and he tapped 42 sec into the fight!

9) Who is your pick Chuck or Tito and how?

I have to go with chuck, tito is on fire but i think chuck is going to come over the top with a lead fist and put him to sleep when he charges him!!

10) Whats your pick for fight of the year?

I have to go with sell vs smith……that had everything, hard hits, good sportsmanship and the best finish i have ever seen!!

I would love to spend some time in brasil and it would be awesome to roll with team punishment too!

Interviewed by Michelle of MMA Disucussions

The NEST

http://www.myspace.com/newerasportstraining

1) Tell the ppl who dont know about the NEST about it?

The NEST is a full scale training facility for MMA fighters. We also gear towards nutritional counseling and we provide one on one training, if necessary. We have two full sized octagons, a mat area, a cardio room and a bag area.

Although we have UFC members that work out at our gym, we are always looking for young fighters who are seeking a career in fighting.

2) What are your training schedules like?

We do vary our work out schedule each day during the week. We do train six days a week from 10a .. 12p and then an additional session from 4p .. 7p five days a week. As stated, we mix up the training and provide boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, ju jitsu, and muay thai .. different throughout the week. We also offer additional classes for members that cannot train during those times.

3) What got you into MMA and when?

A close friend of mine introduced me to the MMA in 1982. At that time the UFC or other organized groups didn..t exist. I studied a variety of things, such as wrestling, karate, kickboxing and boxing.

4) Name some of the fighters other then the obvious that have come outta The NEST?

We have a lot of different fighters that train here. We have a lot of guest fighters such as Din Thomas, Dean Lister, Chris Lytle, Shonie Carter, John Alessio and Karo Parysian who have enjoyed the training here. We also have fighters that do local fights, such as Rage in the Cage. Four of our members just won fights in New Mexico, two of them bringing home the belt, which are Daniel Madrid & Kavi Cermack.

5) What are you thoughts on the blow up of the MMA today in the USA?

Because of Spike TV broadcasting the events on live TV. it has gained popularity throughout the public. I think it is great for people to understand it is not a barbaric sport. These athletes are very talented and this truly is a sport.

6) Best fight of the yr award goes to?

Although I enjoy watching all the fights as they each have their own originality .. there is a toss up between two of my favorite fights this year. One being the first fight between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar and the second being the fight between Diego Sanchez and Karo Parisyan.

7) How can someone get in contact with the NEST?

We have a variety of ways to get in touch with us:

1. Contacting our GM at 602-757-8012.

2. We also have a website, www.nestmma.com

3. Our my space page, http://www.myspace.com/newerasportstraining

4. Our address is 6832 N. El Mirage Road, Glendale, AZ 85307
8) One place you..d rather be right now is?

Well that is a tough question .. but training on the beach in St. Thomas would be great!

9) What things do you focus on when training someone?

We look for their work ethic/commitment when we start the training process to find out if they are going to be serious about their fights. It is a lot of work and we need their dedications. We also look for their weaknesses and then guide them to the right person to work with. If they are weak on boxing - we work on their boxing, etc.

10) How much fun did Edwin say he had on the Spike TV show?

Edwin really enjoyed being on the reality show. He gained a lot of good friends off of the show and enjoyed working with them. He also liked the exposure that the TV show gave him. It has really helped him grow into a great fighter.

11) Some of your signature moves you work on are?

Take downs and take down defense. Also we work on leg kicks. Since the sport has such a wide range of training, we work on different things throughout the week.

12) In your opinion what was the best fight ever?

I really think the Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz fight was amazing. Randy showed us the strength and ability he has despite his age.

13) Tell us when some of your guy’s fight will be and where?

Right now we have a lot of things in progress. We are working with the UFC to get one of our fighters on the next reality show TUF 5. We also have three young stars that we hope to have in the UFC within the next year.

Joe ..Diesel.. Riggs will be fighting December 13 against Diego Sanchez as the main event on UFN. We also believe that Joe will have a shot at the title within a year. Edwin ..Bam Bam.. Dewees continues to train and is looking for a strong comeback in the UFC.

We also have a few of our guys fighting on December 2nd in the local Rage in the Cage event and are looking forward to those fights.
