Interview with: Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith

01) What is it that got you into MMA and when?
It started with wrestling in high school and jr. college, from there i got into BJJ in 1999 and took a fight in the IFC after about 6 months of training.
02) Where do you train, with who and how often?
I train a lot of places. I go to San Francisco 3 days a week to the faiftex gym, i also train at the new Ultimate Fitness center in downtown Sacramento. My main training partner is James Irvin and the rest of the guys from Capitol City Fighting Alliance, also Gunyo Fairtex.
03) Can you give us your picks for UFC 65?

04) What’s your diet like when training for a fight?
3 main things, first low fat, next low sugar, then low salt. carbs are good just not sugar carbs, and not late at night.
05) How was the whole Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback reality show on Spike TV experience for you and how has it changed your life, if at all?
It was great! I got some great training, and got to meet some great friends, including Pete Sell whom i will be fighting on Nov. 11th
06) Which fight that you have been in, would you say is your favorite?
The WEC Light Heavyweight tournament last October because i was a big underdog and i just went in there relaxed and won it.
07) Do you have any fights scheduled?
Nov. 11th vs. Pete Sell on Spike TV for the UFC.
08) Is there any fighter that you want to face?
Anyone who makes for a fun fight! I think a guy like Pete Sell is great for me.
09) What kind of Music and Movies are you into?
Rap music, and I like a good funny movie.
10) What do you think about elbows being banned in MMA?
Elbows should be allowed, its a big part of the sport.
11) Any hobbies or other things you like to do when not training?
Spending time with my girlfriend and two kids.
12) Any street fighting or life and death stories you would like to share?
Been in my fair share of street fights, but never start them. I love to be the one to shut the mouth of the drunk bully.
