Today on a MMA Discussions Radio Toby Glenn is joined by Jamie “The Worm” Varner. Jamie Varner originally comes from Arizona and trains there. He is fighting in the WEC against Razor Rob McCullough. I discuss with him his fight with Hermes Franca, cutting weight, his training for this fight, and so much more. I also talked to him about something that’s really important to me which is MMA in Pennsylvania and we discuss what drives fighters to be high-level athletes in mixed martial arts from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania and why many of them move away after college. Arizona Combat Sports is the name of the gym that he trains at and he discusses his training partners and how they’ve helped him prepare for this fight. He mentioned Deer Valley High School Memorial foundation which is helping families that were affected in a busing accident. To gain the full information about the accident and how to donate go to AZ Central.

UFC 81 Post Show Roundtable [77:40m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Toby Glenn, Tim, and Steve Cujo discussed UFC 81 breaking point but before that we go on to talk about Cung Le versus Frank Shamrock. This fight sparked a huge debate between Tim and Toby Glenn. Toby picks to Frank Shamrock win the fight. However, Tim picksCung Le to win by knockout. Toby thinks it’s absurd that a fighter who’s never fought a true 185 pound fighter in its entire history can beat Frank Shamrock. Tim seems to believe that the Phil Baroni fight was a set up and that Frank Shamrock hasn’t won a fight since his return to mixed martial arts. That makes sense because Frank Shamrock’s first fight back was against Henzo Gracie and he lost that by disqualification. It was a heated debate and in the end neither of us could agree and we made a wager on that battle. We then go on to discuss all the flight on the UFC 81 breaking point fight card including Tim Boetsch vs. David Heath , Chris Lytle vs. Kyle Bradley, Keita Nakamura vs. Rob Emerson, Marvin Eastman vs. Terry Martin, Gleison Tibaua vs. Tyson Griffin, Ricardo Almeida vs. Alan Belcher, Jeremy Horn vs. Nathan Marquardt, Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar, Tim Sylvia vs. Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira.

This is a picture of Bill Smallwood from his Myspace
Toby Glenn and Tim start off by talking about the match between Rani Yahya vs Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto. The stoppage of that fight in Toby’s opinion was based on kicks to the back of the head which were illegal in K1 Hero’s. You can check out the video right here in the videos section. Toby and Tim talk to Bill Smallwood the icefighter who is a professional fighter with a 2 and 2 mixed martial arts record. We also spend some time discussing Brock Lesner vs Frank Mir with Bill on the show.
